Building A Home Theater? Know How To Place Your Speakers

Do you want to build the home theater you have always dreamed of? If so, you are going to need good speakers. The problem is that you can have the best speakers in the world, but the wrong placement can cause them to sound bad. Here are some tips for speaker placement that you should be aware of.

Angle The Speakers Slightly

A common mistake that everyone makes is placing their speakers in a way that they point straight out from the TV because they think the way the speakers look is important. You'll want to angle your speakers slightly so they are pointing towards the spot where you are sitting. The speakers may no longer be completely flush against the wall or even with your television set, but you are going to get better sound quality out of them since sound is directional.

Adjust Wall Distance

Another thing you want to watch out for is how far away the speakers are from the wall. If you have the speakers flush against a wall, you may notice that close placement to the wall will give the speakers more bass, but pulling them away will balance the sound out in a way where you can hear dialogue more clearly. Your subwoofer will do the job of providing bass, so flush placement against the wall isn't necessary.

Adjust Speaker Height

Many people often use an existing shelf or table to place their front speakers, and they don't realize that the placement for them is not optimal for a quality sound experience. Left and right speakers should be at the same height as your ears. However, the center channel speaker cannot be placed at ear level, since it would be right in front of the TV screen. That's why it should go directly above or below the TV and angled slightly to point towards your sitting position.

Place The Subwoofer In A Corner Or Against A Wall

One of the best places to place a subwoofer is actually in the corner of a room. This allows the bass sounds to reverberate off the wall and fill the space of the room. Don't have a corner to place it in? Consider placing the subwoofer behind your seating position and letting the sound reverberate off the wall behind you. This will provide a nice bass effect for everyone in the room rather than just the person in front of the subwoofer.
